Why mosques sometimes differ by a day
The Umm al-Qura calendar is calculated in advance and is official in Saudi Arabia. Turkey’s Diyanet also calculates ahead, with slightly different rules. Other communities wait for the crescent to be sighted on the evening of the 29th.
So the start of a month, especially Ramadan and Shawwal, can be a day earlier or later depending on your mosque. For the first fast and the Eid prayer, follow your mosque’s announcement.
